Services for Immigrants

Immigrants are often unemployed or working outside their field of expertise. Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants assists Newcomers to move more quickly into jobs that match their skills, experience, and knowledge. You will work one-to-one with a Career Advisor and Job Search Advisor through one or more of the following services based on your individual needs.

Skills Upgrading

Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants will provide customized solutions to meet the challenges and requirements of occupations across many industry sectors. We use a one-to-one approach to review your past education and work experience, and discover gaps in training. We will help you access funding targeted to your qualifications, such as:

  • Skills training
  • Certifications or courses
  • Exam preparation and fees
  • Professional membership or licensing fees
  • Occupation Specific Language Training

Skills Upgrading will help you gain the Canadian credentials you need to enter the local labour market.

Gaining Canadian Work Experience

For many employers, the Canadian work experience requirement is less about formal qualifications and more about knowledge of Canadian workplace practices. Our Work Placement Services will identify your employment needs and explore placement options, such as:

  • Practicums
  • Internships
  • Job shadowing
  • Volunteering
  • Full- or part-time paid employment

Throughout our 29-year history of providing services to BC job seekers, we have initiated and strengthened relationships with BC employers across a wide variety of sectors. We will find targeted opportunities to match your experience, knowledge, and skills. These work placements will help you gain Canadian work experience and make you more employable.

Mentorship

Mentors help internationally-trained Immigrants understand the BC job market in their field of expertise, through one-to-one or group meetings. Over 3-4 months, a local mentor will provide you with job search strategies and industry information, and increase your awareness of Canadian workplace culture. Occupation-specific mentorship will also connect you with professionals in your industry and help to establish your own networks.
